Recreations and Park (R&P)

The Recreation and Parks Department is responsible for managing, planning, design and reconstruction for over 200 parks and over 3000 acres of city parkland. Positions in the Planning Division or the Capital Division (or another division) will involve a variety of responsibilities including assistance with developing open space policy, assistance with community meetings, researching quality of life issues and related best practices, helping to work with different city departments or other stakeholders to make our parks even better.

Intern responsibilities range from attending and assisting in community meetings, compiling research for the development of policy and project assistance. The intern will gain an inside view of various city activities, planning methods and the city at work.

There are numerous opportunities for an intern to see the design process from its initial stages to development. Interning with the Recreation and Parks Department will provide an intern with an understanding of how projects are first identified, developed and implemented.
